Phew! When I first read your description and looked at the images I was thinking to myself "Why didn't he print the third one!?" I really like the pose and her attitude. It communicates a strong sense of playful seriousness and her pose imbues the flamingo with his own personality. My imagination fills in his expression and gives him feeling, a similar effect to the Kuleshov experiment we learned about in Elements last year where we place emotion onto neutral faces based on what's next to it. I also like the spotlighting on the models, but think that the highlights on the records in the center of the frame are distracting and you might want to tone those down in Photoshop. Maybe it won't be as bothersome to me when they are printed.
I totally agree with Kevin, Jennifer's expression and pose in the image you chose to print are so much stronger than the initial poses you were instructing her to do. The reflections on the records don't really bother me so much, and I love the smoke in the second image!

Actually, the third one is the one I've printed.

I just realized while I was looking at these again, I love the reflection of the flamingo on the records in the third image!
