Kevin Changes His Project!

Thursday, October 14, 2010

As the title implies, I am drastically changing my project. I was working with my shape dominated still lifes and realized that I was tired of working with geometric regular shapes and abstracts and that I needed to move in a more organic direction. Nothing is more organic than liquid, so I decided to make miniature sound sculptures out of paint. I did this by covering a dissected speaker in a thin rubber membrane and putting very thin paint down on it in three groups, red, yellow, and blue. I picked these because as the droplets converge midair, they can make a wide range of colors. I recorded myself making a "POP" noise with my mouth and played it very loudly through the speaker, resulting in the shower of drops you see in the images.

Woah! This is really really cool! At first when you were telling me about this I wasn't too sure how you would get it to work, but this is pretty sweet! I wonder if you were to try using different colored backgrounds and different inks, like a red background and black ink, or something like that.
